SAN CARLOS DE BARILOCHE

Bariloche is a city located between ancient forests, snow covered mountains and crystalline lakes, in the province of Río Negro, Argentina. This is a postcard of our Patagonia. A host city par excellence, framed by some of the most important natural beauties of the country.

The city is located inside the national park Nahuel Huapi, next to the mountain range of the Andes.

How to get there

By Car from Buenos Aires

From Santa Rosa: Westbound, National Route Nº 5, National Route Nº 35, National Route Nº 152, National Route Nº 143, Provincial Route Nº 20, National Route Nº 151, National Route Nº 22, National Route Nº 237 and National Route Nº 40.

From Bahía Blanca: National Route Nº 3, National Route Nº 22, National Route Nº 237 and National Route Nº 40.

By Plane

The most well-known and chosen air transport to travel from Buenos Aires, are LAN and Aerolineas Argentinas.

By Bus

There is a great offer of buses in Argentina and most have services to and from Bariloche. You can choose basic services, semi-bed, bed or executive bed. They offer comfortable seating, movies on board, drinks, breakfast, lunch or dinner during the trip.

The climate

It is a climate of high mountain, more rainy in winter, with abundant snow, and more soft and dry in summer. The prevailing winds are of the west, that is, of the Pacific Ocean. Temperatures are decreasing from the foothill (the low slopes of the mountain) towards the summit. In summer the days are warm and sunny, with maximum temperatures reaching 33ºC. The days are very long and you can enjoy the light until 10 PM! In winter the days are cold, with temperatures between 0ºC and -10ºC and usually with frequent snowfalls. Autumn and spring are cool, with cool nights. In autumn the winds are calmer but there is more rain, while spring is more windy but with less precipitation.

Excursions

Cerro Catedral:

It is the largest ski center in the Southern Hemisphere (120 kilometers of slopes spread over an area of 600 hectares) and offers a wide infrastructure of services for the practice of winter sports. It is open all year round and has 40 means of elevation (between lifts and cable cars), facilitating the ascent of 35 thousand people per hour.

Cerro Tronador:

The Cerro Tronador is the highest in the surroundings of Bariloche. After leaving the city center, the mythical National Route 40 takes you to the south, crossing the shores of Gutiérrez and Mascardi Lakes to join the Provincial Route 82. The route continues through a winding road, ascending until reaching the point of maximum height of the whole route. From there you can see the valley of the upper Manso River in almost all its extension, with its meandering course and water green color. Continuing to Pampa Linda, you will find a beautiful place where accommodation and gastronomy services are found. From here you start your way to the base of the hill, where there is a warm confectionery and from there you can see other glaciers of the Tronador. The ascent continues until arriving at the last viewpoint of the route, the Black Ventisquero, a glacier that descends from the Tronador and that stands out for its dark color. On the way back you can take the detour of the road that reaches the waterfall Los Alerces to contemplate this waterfall of 30 meters in height.

Cerro Campanario:

From Cerro Campanario you can see the Nahuel Huapi and Moreno lakes, El Trébol lagoon, San Pedro peninsula, Victoria Island, Otto, Lopez, Goye, Bellavista, Cathedral, Chapel, Hotel Llao Llao and the groves of Colonia Suiza.

Lake Excursions:

Victoria Island and Arrayanes Forest

Departing from Puerto Pañuelo, on the imposing Llao Llao peninsula and after an hour of navigation, you will climb to the Quetrihue peninsula, located in the northeast of Lake Nahuel Huapi, where the legendary arrayan forest lies. After touring this incomparable scenario, you sail to Puerto Anchorena, on Victoria Island, where you will find a prolific flora in species of great visual appeal. Going along the paths of this beautiful and ancient island you will reach Playa del Toro, where you can see the cave paintings made by the original people who lived in this area, within the framework of a splendid volcanic sand beach. It is an unforgettable experience!

Puerto Blest and Cantaros waterfall

It leaves from Puerto Pañuelo, in the peninsula of Llao Llao. After an hour of navigation, it is passed next to the Sentinel Island, place where rests of the Expert Francisco Pascasio Moreno, father of the Argentine national parks. From there the navigation continues until arriving at the Cascada de los Cántaros.

Ski and snow

From June to October, Bariloche is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country, offering skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, heli-skiing, tobogganing and quad biking. For those who start in winter sports, the hills provide gentle slopes and forests. The more experienced will be able to renew their challenges on slopes that reach up to 2100 m.s.n.m and fans off the track will be amazed by the variety of options available.

Ski:

For those just beginning, the soft earrings provide the ideal space to learn by practicing. Ski schools have the best instructors and first class equipment. Experts will find tracks with challenging slopes, some with a height of 2100 meters above sea level, and off-piste tours for unique environments.

Snowboard:

The basic equipment to practice it is the board, the bindings and the boots. In addition the hill has a specially created area for skiers and snowboarders to encourage more, with safety standards and all the necessary elements to enjoy with friends an ideal place.

Sled:

Fun in the snow! An ideal activity for the whole family, especially for the younger ones. There are special sectors for sliding with sleds and other unforgettable moments...

Rackets:

Snowshoes are accessories that fit the footwear and serve to move more comfortably and quickly on snowy or icy terrain, being used especially in the practice of hiking and trekking in winter.

Crossings 4 x 4:

Bariloche is full of places to travel and enjoy in 4x4 vehicles. Steep terrain, imposing vegetation and stimulating routes that take you to unimagined places.
